What true crime shows will be the best to stream in 2022? That is a question that many true crime fans ask themselves. I’ve compiled a list of shows that should get a new season and what I believe will be the top true crime shows to stream in 2022. I’m also keeping my radar out on upcoming true crime documentaries on Netflix, so expect this post to grow!
If you are like me, you are too running out of shows to binge on your Netflix account, but worry not, 2022 will be packed with some exciting true crime shows and we will see the return of some of our favourite stories too.
The Staircase
First on our list is “The Staircase” which originally aired in 2004 but will be coming back to Netflix with all-new episodes. Netflix’s “The Staircase” is an American true-crime documentary television series originally released in 2004 on France’s Canal+ network. This true-crime documentary follows the story of Michael Peterson, who was accused of murdering his wife Kathleen after she was found dead at the bottom of a staircase in their home. The case captivated audiences and sparked quite a controversy with talking points, like “The Owl Theory”.
The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann
Another true crime show to keep on your radar is “The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann”. The true story follows the disappearance of a three-year-old British girl named Madeleine McCann who vanished from her bed during a vacation with her family at a Portugal resort. Her case remains unsolved, but there were plenty of updates on the case with the arrest of the mysterious Cristian B.
Tiger King
Another story, we are hoping to get further updates on is definitely Tiger King. Netflix already treated us to a second season and a sort of spin-off with Doc Antle, and I just can’t get enough! If you haven’t seen it, Tiger King is a true-crime documentary series about the crazy life of Joe Exotic. The characters are unreal, and the story… You couldn’t make this shit up!
Inventing Anna (11th February 2022, Netflix)
This show is about Anna Delvey, a woman who pretended to be a wealthy socialite and scammed people out of money. The series is directed by the legendary Shonda Rhimes, so we expect some real draaaa-maaaa!
